Disney Princesses Take over America

I just watched a video of Matt Damon comparing Sara Palin to a Disney Princess. He was trying to be insulting, but I think he missed the fact that America loves Disney Princesses. I mean would it really be that bad if a Disney Princess ran the country? Maybe not Snow White - the vibrato in her singing voice is terribly irritating. But a smile and a friendly "Hello!" might be just what the Middle East needs right now. The secret service would probably have trouble with the influx of rodents making fabulous, froofy dresses, but the 2009 Inaugural Ball would be magical! If I had to pick just one princess for President, I would probably go with Cinderella. She knows how to clean house, and I think that's what our government needs right now - a thorough scrub down. Cinderella's seen the tough life of the lower classes, but she still believes that everyone can have their dreams come true. So, Cinderella for President! Magical pumpkin coaches for all Americans!

Mushy Brains

Last night we watched Resident Evil 3. It wasn't a great movie, but it did get me to thinking, "How prepared are we for an invasion of zombies?" After a quick inventory, I came up with a list of weaknesses in our homes defense. First, our house is full of picture windows. They are just simple single pane glass, not even storm windows. A zombie wouldn't bat an eye - assuming he still had one intact - before busting on through! Second, we don't own a gun or crossbow. I'm assuming that we would need thousands of rounds of ammunition to defend ourselves. Maybe firearms and projectiles aren't the best way to go. Perhaps a machete would be a more appropriate weapon or possibly an axe? Although, using that style of weapon would bring us into closer proximity to the zombies chompers. Pretty much when the undead decide to come over for a Jackson buffet, there's absolutely nothing here to stop them. That being said, don't be surprised if you see us among the ranks of eternally hungry brain-eaters ravaging your neighborhood. After all if you can't beat 'em join 'em! It's better to be the eater than the eaten - if your stomach's strong enough. Plus, it's more fun to be on the winning side! Don't blame us for jumping on the zombie bandwagon. argggggggggghhghghg......

Friday Night Football

My friend Sara and I went to the first Permian home game last Friday. We had awesome seats on the 50 yard line - thanks Damon! Permian blew San Angelo away by 40 points. It was great fun! I didn't get a lot of pictures because we were so busy gabbing and cheering.
I love that lady's face behind us. People get so into the game!

Baby Brainwashing

Sorry the picture is so dark. Makes it hard to see the look of pain on Damon's face. Ha!

Cheesy

One of my instructors had us read the book Who Moved My Cheese? Damon's aunt Madelin had given it to us when Damon was laid off in 2001 and it was good to read it again. My favorite part of the book is when it asks "What would you do if you weren't afraid?" Personally I'm very reigned in by my fears, especially fear of the unknown and fear of failure. Being back in school has brought both of those fears front and center. I feel like I've been smacked on the forehead but I'm starting to realize that 1.) I like being a nurse and 2.) I like learning more about what I do. Surprise, surprise!

Reality Check

For some reason I thought that working fulltime, having a 2 year old, and going back to school wouldn't interfere with life as usual. WHAT WAS I THINKING!!!!!!

My classes started last Tuesday and the past 5 days have kicked my butt. The program had me hitting the ground running and since I haven't had to strain my brain for the past 10 years it's been a far from graceful beginning. One of my professors seems like she genuinely wants us to be better nurses through this program. Another of my professors leaves me with the impression that she doesn't like students. Eeeep!

I'm trying to stay focused on the prize and my successes. This weeks victories include: reading over 150 pages of nursing literature and turning in my assignments on time. Damon has gone above and beyond! He's been so helpful, especially when I've wanted to take a hammer to my computer and the Texas Tech IT staff. Thanks Babe!

Midnight in Odessa

I recently got hooked on Stephanie Meyers Twilight book series. It's a teenage vampire love story written by a Mormon house wife. Sounds silly I know but it's been a fun escape from reality. My awesome friend Sara went with me to the midnight book release party at Hastings. The party was a bit on the lame side (no food!) but we did get to see a few interesting goth people.

Chocolate!

I've recently discovered a new chocolate icing recipe. It's easy and super yummy!
Throw 4 squares of bakers chocolate (I used semi-sweet) & 1 1/2 cups Coolwhip in a microwave safe bowl. Heat for a minute and then stir! It looks a little wierd at first so don't freak out. Just keep stirring and enjoy! It made enough for me to cover 2 dozen cupcakes.

July 4th Fun!

This year we spent the 4th in Kermit. Several distant cousins where able to join us and that made the day very memorable. There was so much food and lots of laughter! Essential ingredients for a good holiday. Damon and Oscar manned the grill for hamburgers. We ended the day by catching the firework show at the park. Wow I'm tired!
